1 Peter 2:21
“For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,”
Jesus did plenty of suffering in His life. He never copped an attitude of unfairness. He continued to do what was right.
On occassion Jesus would point out was wrong. Luke 14 has such a story. Jesus is at the house of a pharisee on the sabbath. While eating and talking, there appeared an ill man before Him. He anticipates their judgement about healing someone on the sabbath. He says anyone of you would help their child or even their donkey if it fell into a well on the sabbath. He corrected, He didn’t complain.
There will be plenty of unfairness in our lives. We can call it out, as Jesus did. Yet, we aren’t to be a victim. No complaining. I think of Mary Decker who got tripped at the olympics. She could end her days in bitterness. This could darken the remainder of one’s life. The olympics is a point in time opportunity that could rarely be duplicated. The chance is gone, rarely to return. This is not easy to live with.
How are we to view these injustices? We are to have faith that God is in control. Romans 8:28 says that He works all out for the good to those that His children. This requires that we believe in a powerful and loving God. He is able and willing to bless our lives. Our lives may resemble a complicated story; difficult to fathom. However, He will make it beautiful (in His way and) in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
We will need to develop a flexible attitude. We often fill in the blanks with our dreams. When things don’t go as planned, we get frustrated. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, ‘but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.”‘ When we have a roadblock we should ponder about, “How will God creatively get me out of this one?” Not with pessimism, but with hope and faith. We might not ever see reasons for roadblocks. We need to trust Him in that department.
Lord, thank You that You’ve got us and our lives. Help us to enthusiastically embrace the good and bad times with hopeful expectation.
