I Corinthians 9:11,12
“If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.”
The corinthian church had a laundry list of problems that Paul addressed. Today’s verse is another one. Some in the church must have suspected that Paul had been receiving some money that the church collected. Not a theft, but a gift.
He denies having done so, but goes into depth that they had the right to. Two verses earlier he says, ‘For it is written in the Law of Moses: “YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE IT IS THRESHING.” God is not concerned about oxen, is He? Or is He speaking entirely for our sake? Yes, it was written for our sake, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing in the crops.’
There it is. He provides scriptural evidence that the church should have been paying them. The Word of God is amazing. Here was a complaint by a person or a group and here’s a great answer. The bible is an anvil that has worn out many hammers. That is a quote from someone about the bible.
I can recall having doubts about the bible as a young christian. In the mean time a believer put my mind at rest. He didn’t address my problem, but assured me that God would do so in time. I don’t know how much time passed, but the answer came and my concern was very petty in the end.
We can trust God. We don’t need to be alarmed. Whenever we are we need to rest in Him. He will work it out. The devil may have put the concern before us as he wants nothing more than to make us anxious and to get our eyes off God. Thank You, Lord, that You are so trustworthy.
