Esther 2:11
“And every day Mordecai walked back and forth in front of the courtyard of the harem to learn how Esther was and what was happening to her.”
Mordecai was worried about her. We’re not sure what happened to her parents, but they are gone. Mordecai had taken her in as if she were his daughter. He cared for and raised her. He is acting as any parent would.
I think of my own children. They are adults, but still live with us. We pray for them. We advise them sparingly, as they would rather not hear from us.
I Corinthians 7:14 speaks of the influence of the godly home, “For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.” Being in the home doesn’t save them, but as they choose to live there they are submitting themselves to God’s kingdom rule. While they are both believers, remaining in the home gives them a bit more of the Holy Spirit’s influence.
We witness their share of life’s trials and opportunities. We pace back and forth just as Mordecai does. We continue to keep them in prayer. Seeing them often keeps them in the fore of our minds, thus we bring them to the Lord in prayer.
2 Timothy 1:12 says, “For this reason I also suffer these things; but I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to protect what I have entrusted to Him until that day.” We have entrusted our children to Him. Thank You, Lord, that You love them and will keep them.
