Numbers 28:1,2
‘Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be careful to present My offering, My food for My offerings by fire, of a soothing aroma to Me, at their appointed time.’”‘
According to the Old Covenant, several offerings were to be given. We don’t have them in the New Covenant. However, there are several things that are similar: an offering of praise (worship), we give our lives as a sacrifice (dedication), we tithe (finances), a contrite heart (attitude), doing good (duty)
In the Old Covenant, sacrifices were mandatory practices that dealt with the covering of one’s sin, or rites that were required. In the New Covenant these are different based on the individual. Also, they aren’t required for our salvation, yet if we are saved we will do them. They are the fruit of being a christian, just like apples are the fruit of an apple tree.
We are to inspect ourselves to confirm if we are in the faith. 2 Peter 1:10 says, “Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble”. Before these verses, Peter gave a list of traits that christians are to have. Much like the sacrifices I mentioned earlier. They don’t earn our salvation. They confirm that we have it.
What if these aren’t part of our lives? There are two options to get them. If we’ve already accepted Christ, then we have stopped following Him. Ask for forgiveness and for help to start new. Begin reading the bible and be sure to join a bible teaching church with believers to help encourage you in the walk. If you haven’t accepted Christ, then do so. You will not regret it. You will be an apple tree and begin to show fruit (Galatians 5). As you join a church and read your bible, these will begin to be born in your life.
Lord, thank You for the New Covenant. Help us to offer ourselves a sacrifice to You. Let godly fruit be evident in our lives.
