Matthew 5:18
“For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished.”
Until I became a christian the Word of God had very little impact on my life. I did go to church and heard the readings. I don’t think I have read it intentionally in my early years. No one I knew read it. That being said God loves all of us and is seeking to connect with us. He probably used the hearing and impacted my life.
I became a christian about 17 years of age. I stayed at the same church for a year or two. God brought us (mom and brother) to Calvary Chapel, a bible teaching church. Wow! Pastor Chuck knew the bible and had a wonderful relationship with God. We learned much and grew deep in bible knowledge and in our relationship with God.
The bible is a special book. It’s God’s Word. It’s His message to us. It bridges the unseen world and the seen. We learn of the fall and our fallen state. We learn through Israel how God sought to relate to them in spite of sin. We learn of the promised messiah. We learn of Jesus dying for our sins and rising, promising us resurrection. We learn how we can walk in a forgiven state enveloped in His love. We learn how He wants us to pass on His message of forgiveness to all.
Much of it’s content is miraculous. The talking snake, The split sea, fire coming down from heaven and so on. Many disbelieve because of these. However, if we believe the first verse of the bible, then the rest is no problem. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, (Genesis 1:1).
Romans 1 tells us that God through creation gave enough evidence for belief. There is perfect design everywhere. A random coming about is too fantastic. Knowing statistics doesn’t leave room for this.
The bible is alive. Hebrews 4:12a says, “For the Word of God is living and active”. Jesus illustrates this in the parable of the sower. Hearing the bible gets it planted in our hearts. It grows. It’s message takes root and motivates us to action. We wrestle with it and hopefully our behavior changes.
Other writings are inspirational, but not alive. It’s life comes from God. Like Jack’s magic beans, they grow when planted in our hearts. It’s a miracle. The more we hear and read the more growth there is.
We do have a part in this. We must obey His Word. If not, our hearts become calloused and the Word dies in us. That’s why Jesus said, “If any man has ears, let him hear”, (Mark 4:23). Listen and obey. If we obey, He gives us growth and blessing. Our lives become better, we get His peace and forgiveness. We get to know Him better. He is love and we become blessed.
What does He tell us to do? To let go and to love others. To let go of unforgiveness and grudges. To let go of addictions and behavior that isn’t biblical. He will help us if we ask Him to.
Many are offended by this. They say, no, and do what they want. Many try to discredit the bible, so they don’t have to obey it. Evolution was founded so people would feel they aren’t obligated to obey the bible.
It’s been said the “The bible is an anvil that has worn out many hammers”. The devil’s lie to Adam and Eve was to distort God’s words. It stands. History confirms it. The more discoveries there are only confirm it.
We can bow the knee or raise the fist. Most of the bible has been fulfilled. The end times prophecies remain. We may be in those times. The time may be short. It certainly seems so. Today’s verse says that all of it will be fulfilled. Obey it’s message and receive hope.
Lord, thank You for the blessing of Your Word. We learn of You and more. We have become Your sons and daughters and are blessed. Thank You!
