Noah, Part One

Hebrews 11:6
“By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
Noah had huge faith. I can’t recall anyone else in scripture who had such a large, singular task, that did it so far in advance.
Noah’s task was huge. He was to build a structure that’s never been built before. Boats may have been around, but nothing of this scale. Here are some comparisons with it’s size. By converting cubits to feet, it’s LxWxH dimensions were 450 ft x 75 ft x 45 ft. This is a football field and a half long; as wide as the lot for a small house and four and a half stories tall. The time to build the arc could have been as low as 55 years or up to 100 years; probably something in between. I believe God gifted him with a mechanical aptitude. It was still a huge task. Noah’s faith in God to do this enormous task was unique.
God spoke to Noah. There was no confusion about who was speaking and what the message was. Just as many today store up food and items for a troubled economy or a failure in our system, so Noah was going to save his family and the animals.
Noah commited himself to a long term project; possibly 70 years. His endurance was impressive. There were probably failures along the way. It was probably a sight that local people would visit and would question Noah, as one questions someone with far fetched ideas. His faith was tested in these times.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” Our christian experience is by faith. He tells that He won’t give us more than we can handle.
