I Chronicles 16:7
“Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the LORD.”
David did much. Here’s another accomplishment. Up to this point, there wasn’t person in charge of worship. David puts Asaph in charge of it. Songs to the Lord are now a part of the nation.
I would be curious to know how song and worship were incorporated in the life of the nation. Today we’ve got radio and devices that play music when we choose. However, singers and musicians were required back then. Would they walk about like carolers? Would they be seated at a position in the city? Would it be on the sabbath or at random times.
Psalm 134:1 says, “Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, Who serve by night in the house of the LORD!” It appears the tabernacle didn’t go dark, but had people there at all times, even night. It sounds like they would bless the Lord awhile they were there. That sounds amazing.
This pleased the Lord. God blesses people with talent and creativity. I love the fact that the renessanse preceded the reformation. God’s blessing spills out into all areas of life. Art was a huge area. No doubt music and the other arts were influenced.
Music and worship come in all types. There is the crescendo which raises emotion and experience. But there is also the somber and sad notes that fit different times. It’s one of the spices of life.
Music and worship should be part of our lives. I listen to the radio in the car. Sometimes it’s christian tunes sometimes not. I believe He blesses all.
I have a monthly time of hour long worship. I sit and and listen to christian music. I normally sit in silence and enjoy.
Thank You, Lord, for music. Allow it to be a blessing. You are worthy to be praised.
