Don’t Grow Weary in Doing Good

II Thessalonians 3:13
“But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.”

The fact that Paul brings up the topic of growing weary of doing good, means that it’s possible. We can grow weary of almost anything. David had this experience. He was a man that did the right thing. However, he saw some prosperous people who weren’t good. They were boastful in their bending the rules and self-centeredness. He didn’t understand how they prospered. He said in Psalm 73:16, “When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight.” He was weary of doing good.
This same Psalm resolves David’s problem. The next two verses say, “Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end. Surely You set them in slippery places”. David saw his error. Their arrogance and poor ethics did catch up with them.
Another way of growing weary of doing good is being out of balance. In Matthew 14:23, Jesus demonstrates how to stay balanced. “After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.” He knew how to be refreshed while maintaining a busy schedule.
Lord, help us to be those who do good and don’t grow weary. Give us wisdom as to when to take breaks and help us to have a healthy devotional life.
