Deuteronomy 32:7
“Remember the days of old, Consider the years of all generations. Ask your father, and he will inform you, Your elders, and they will tell you.”
Moses is admonishing the people. He is speaking to future times when they would stray from God. The last time in Deuteronomy we focused on “Remember the days of old”. This is when we’ve strayed and can look back and remember better times with the Lord.
Today we’ll look at the last part, “Ask your father, and he will inform you, Your elders, and they will tell you”. This is when we learn from others. We may be new to the faith and not know that a greater depth with God is possible. We may not be new, but unaware of this depth.
A healthy church should be encouraging its members to go deep with God. There should be constant references. Not that it’s the focus weekly, but it would be a reoccurring “by the way” comment.
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all you heart, soul and mind. This is not possible unless there is a relationship. Our connection with the Lord should be better each day. 1 Peter 1:19 says, “… until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” We’ve all come out of darkness. When we come to Christ, it’s like the first flicker of dawn. The longer we walk with the Lord, the brighter the day gets. Until we are with Him.
It’s possible to ignore our time with God and things will grow dim. We addressed that last time. Today we are looking to learn from those that have a deeper relationship and are challenged to go there.
There are those that have wonderful, caring and deep human relationships. We learn from them. The same is true for the spiritual. Some are very close to God. We need to learn from them, as well.
We should pray for those influences. They may be our pastor, a friend, someone in a book or on the radio. The Lord wants to be closer with us. He will honor that prayer in His time.
Lord, help us to be ever closer to You. Bring those in our lives to learn from.
