“I’m not done, yet.”

1 Peter 2:6  “For this is contained in Scripture: ‘BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”’

Shame first entered the human experience with our first parents, Adam and Eve. They had sin and they instantly saw that they were naked and ashamed. Ever since then, none of us has ever felt quite right.
We make mistakes and are embarrassed about them. There is a line from Edward Scissorhands where he says, “I’m not done yet”. That’s how we feel. We go on out each day with a feeling that we aren’t quite ready. There are times when we feel confident. However, if circumstances were different, it wouldn’t take long for us to feel insecure.
Our sin has separated us from God. This is why we’re incomplete. We were meant to be joined to Him. Much like a toy or machine with a missing part. It still may still function. However, it may shake and do it’s job with half the efficiency. That’s why when we are reunited with Him through Christ, we have peace. Philippians 4:7 describes it as a peace that passes all understanding. We no longer shake and work at half rate. As we read His Word and follow His ways, we begin to be calibrated. Our lives get in sync with Him.
The guilt of sin has been removed. Our memory of it begins to diminish. Our shame also subsides. We still may feel incomplete at times, but we know He’s with us. Even though I may feel not ready for the task, He put me there.
2 Timothy 3:17 says, He’ll equip me for every good work. Going though it we begin to feel more together. We do this by faith. It’s scary at first, but it becomes more natural. I’ve heard the phrase “flying the plane while it’s being built”. That’s how it feels at times.
We’ve been accepted by The Lord of the universe. The creator and sustainer of life. By association, we no longer need to feel shame. Just like the kid who got picked last for recess games, we often feel shame. Yet, He’s chosen us. We associate with the greatest team captain. The bullies leave us alone.
Lord, thank You that You’ve chosen us. Thank You that You are making us more complete and competent every day.
