The Privilege of Prayer

1 Thessalonians 1:2
“We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers”.

Oh, to be prayed for. What a comforting feeling. I could say that I’m a christian, because of a praying mother. She would take a morning walk and pray for us. It felt like we had a cover of protection, because of those prayers.
Prayer has power. It goes back to believing in God. Do we believe He is able? Scripture is full of His miracles. If you’re genuinely doubtful, but want to believe, Mark 9:24 refers to a similar person. “‘Immediately the boy’s father cried out, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief!”’ He will help a sincere heart.
Does God care for us? There are several billion people in the world. Do we matter? In Matthew 6:26, Jesus talks about the sparrows and how God feeds them. He doesn’t see a bird as insignificant. He ends by saying that we are much more valuable than they. So, of course, He cares for us. Even though there are an overwhelming amount of people, He sees us as special.
We are to pray. James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.” It’s a privilege and exciting to participate in this loving exercise, which is so efficient. Prayer works. Due to our powerful, loving God, it’s a great way to care for others.
Lord, thank You for prayer. Thanks that You allow us to be part of the solution by prayer. Help us to be better at it.
