‘Haman also said, “Even Esther the queen let no one except me come with the king to the banquet which she had prepared; and tomorrow also I am invited by her with the king.’
This is a great example of reading a situation wrongly. He was recanting all of the good things in his life. One of them was queen Esther’s invitation. We know that this was done to call out the evil of Haman’s plan.
This reminds me of Jesus’ parable in Luke 12. It was about a farmer whose crops were coming in and it was so large that he didn’t have the room. So, he thought to himself, I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Now there is nothing wrong with his plans. His problem was the last versse in the parable, “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’ Such is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich in relation to God”, (20,21). Jesus’ point is be rich in your relationship with God and then enjoy earthly riches, if you have them.
Both Haman and the rich man had very favorable circumstances. Unfortunately, disaster was right around the corner. Circumstances can be a very bad predictor in life. Ephesians 6:13 gives us good advice, “Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.” This is another way of saying what Jesus did, be rich in relation toward God.
How do we do this? Say yes to God. We should be reading the bible and hearing bible messages at church. If you aren’t going to church then listen on the radio. If we haven’t accepted Christ and His sacrifice for sins, then do that. That simple prayer cleanses our soul and sets us on a new path. It’s one of ascendance. When we die we step over and see God in more fulness as well as some of our dearly departed.
The armor of God from Ephesians has several pieces, shoes, work clothes (girding loins), belt, breastplate (body armor), helmet and a sword. This is a great study. An easy summary is to be in God’s Word, follow it and trust God’s promises.
Circumstances can still be a bummer, but God isn’t surprised. As The Ephesian passage said, evil days will come. Trust Him to make sense of them and to get us through them.
