I Corinthians 6:19, 20
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
This is great news. I made a mess of my life. Yet, God wanted me. So much so that He sent His Son to die for us. Jesus gave Himself for us. A penalty so huge that we could never imagine. It says we’ve been bought with a price. His death was the price.
In context, Paul tells them that intimacy is to be in the context of marriage. Outside of that the body is defiled and diseases can be had. Thus harming our bodies. He says our bodies are to be holy as they are the temple(s) of the Holy Spirit.
God wants to dwell in us. Jesus’ sacrifice made us clean. Thus we are a suitable temple. I can recall accepting Christ and sensing His guidance. It’s been 48 years and it has gotten better and better. Redeemed and rescued. Thank You, God!
We’ve seen many great temples in Europe. So big and beautiful. Works of art. Yet, many are devoid of the Spirit. Yet, here we are, insignificant and broken. He buys us, cleanses us and moves in.
We don’t have to be popular or famous. No one has to know us. Yet, we are valued by God. He moved in and made His home in us.
To swap metaphors, He adopted us and He’s our Father. We could have been orphans and unwanted. We now have the greatest Father possible. He’s in us and loves us completely.
It’s awesome to walk with Him and sense His love. Nothing else matters. Psalm 91:7 says, “Though a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, no harm will come near you.” Amazing. Not only adopted, but protected.
The last part of the verse says “you are not your own”. That would be concerning if our buyer were not God. But He is God. The smartest, most loving owner possible.
Thank You, God. You proceeded with creation, even though You knew we would fall. Your Son would have to die for us. Yet, You went through with it. You’ve become our Father and You’ve made us Your home. Amazing. Thank You.
