Nehemiah 8:17
“The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths. Indeed, the sons of Israel had not done so since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day. And there was very great rejoicing.”
This is the Feast of Booths. The idea is to live in tents like their ancestors did in the days of Moses when they were delivered from Egypt. The Israelites were enslaved for four hundred years. The people would make bricks and build the cities and pyramids. Life was miserable. They cried out to God. He heard them and sent Moses. God did many major miracles and Pharaoh finally let them go.
This was a great deliverance. God wanted them to remember it. So He established the Feast of Booths. The people would camp out for a week to remember God’s great deliverance. The priests abandoned it, so it was neglected for hundreds of years.
God wants us to remember the works He’s done for us. Communion is one such practice. Jesus died for our sins. Therefore the gateway to being forgiven and reconciled back to God is now open. Many have taken that offer.
Sticking with God’s salvation. He gives us a new heart and fills us with His Holy Spirit. A relationship with God is possible. He guides us and gives us the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
I have walked with God for 48 years. What a wonderful life. When I take communion I remember the sinful life I’ve been delivered from by Jesus’ sacrifice. I still sin and am reminded how sinful I am and how without God I would be in trouble.
God has done great things for us. He wants us to remember those acts. Thank You, for the wonderful things and the great sacrifices You’ve made. You are so good to us.
