His Power, Pt II

Deuteronomy 8:18
“But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

In part I, the power to get out of sin was addressed. This time we will focus on the power God gives for positive things. It specifically refers to the power to make wealth, but it’s the same as achievements, goals and growth.

It’s exciting to know that God wants us to grow more than we do. This is hard to fathom, for everyone has self focus. This isn’t bad until it becomes selfishness or to the exclusion of others. Romans 8:37-39 speaks of His involvement in our lives due to His love for us.

Jeremiah 29:11 speaks of God having a future and a hope for us. God has plans for us and He is actively involved in our lives to fulfill those. Romans 8:28 gives us some insight into this. Part of it says that He works all things for the good to those that love Him…

It’s the “all things” that God patiently uses to make us His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). We go through all sorts of things in our lives; some good, some bad. It’s like those are the building material of our lives.

We are to be patient with Him through this. We want things to be done or gone. It’s ok to work towards that end. However, some things take time. We tend to get into a panic. We need to go to Him in prayer. Trust that He will work it out for the good.

A couple of things are going on. That area that the circumstance is testing becomes stronger and we are becoming more patient and trusting. His power is transforming us and it.

Much like we can’t see what a sculptor is making until time passes. We might not understand what purpose something or someone has in our lives. We don’t get it. However, He does. He’s all wise and all loving. He won’t allow us to be tested beyond our ability (1 Corinthians 10:13).

The Ephesian passage referenced earlier says we are His workmanship. His power is making us something good.

What’s our part in this? Do we have any say in what God is making us? That will be addressed in part III.

Lord, thank You that Your love and power are working in and through us for the good.
