Faith in the Difficulties

Job 1:20-22

‘Then Job got up, tore his robe, and shaved his head; then he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.” Despite all this, Job did not sin, nor did he blame God.’

This is faith. What comes to mind are all of the complaining I hear about God. “Why did He do this?” or “Why did He do that?” Probably legitimate questions. I don’t doubt that they were hurt and sincerely wonder why God allowed it.

What also come to mind is a friends comment that he has “the faith of a child.” Meaning he trusts God, even though he doesn’t have answers. I haven’t suffered to the extent that some have. However, I can say that I have experienced the deliverance of God and His protection. I can recall being afraid that I couldn’t remain in Him. I prayed in desperation. I had much doubt. But He did keep me.

I have learned much of His love since those days. It is so great I can’t begin to see it’s breadth or depth. So, why does He allow difficulties? Hebrews 12:6 says, “For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives.” Our response is to be like Job’s, we trust and worship.

Job’s suffering would break most of us. God wouldn’t have us go through trials of that degree. Job’s life was to be an example in the bible for all of humanity to see and read about. God gives us our trials and helps us through them. We learn lessons and cut things out of our lives.

I heard Greg Laurie interview Chuck Smith. It was probably from 2010. Greg asked if he has fears or doubts. He said, “No”. I relate to that. His confidence shook me. Almost as if we shouldn’t admit to that, but to humbly say so with all sorts of qualifications. But he gave a simple no. That being said, I don’t have doubts or fears. It feels awesome to say so. It’s not of me. It’s the Spirit within me. His Spirit bearing witness within me that I’m a child of God, (Romans 8:16). We feel Him all day long. His peace gives us strength and comfort.

Lord, thank You, that You are walking with us giving us comfort and guidance. When we go through trials You are there comforting us. We all go through trials. Most are mild, but others can be challenging and long. Job’s were off the charts. He gave us the example to cling to God even then. Job 13:15a says, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him”. Give us the strength, Lord. I know You will. Thank You.
