I Corinthians 6:9,10
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Most would have agreed with this until the sexual revolution of the sixties. However, most saw sex as sowing one’s oats. The philosophy was “You’re young. You’ve got plenty of time to live right. There’s opportunity, go for it.” I’ve heard a parent encouraging his college age son to do this. The son was a serious christian and the parent wasn’t. Fortunately, the child did not follow the parent’s advice.
Now a days our society sees sex outside of the biblical context as fine. They say, “Don’t judge.” They also say, “If you don’t agree with this you are intolerant.” This isn’t something talked about in public as it’s not safe. Some get violent.
Is this never discussed? Sure it is. Usually it’s casting pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6). Jesus is telling us to share the truth with those who are ready for it. Not those who will trample it underfoot.
I heard Pastor Rick Warren being interviewed about these topics. He shared them confidently. When the interviewer sought to confront him, Rick said, “These standards came from God. Talk to Him if you don’t like them”. When we do share this we also aren’t to be apologetic. Share scriptures like these.
God is not picking on one group. He’s talking about all who don’t abide by the biblical definition of appropriate behavior. Many public voices in the Christian community do pick on one group or another. When it comes down to judgment day, it’s all who practice such behavior outside of the biblical context. That’s a lot.
We need to share His message when applicable. Lord, give us wisdom and boldness.
