Nehemiah 8:2
“Then Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men, women, and all who could listen with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.”
This is a great day. The people have returned from exile. The wall is complete. Now the people gather together and they look heavenward and are to hear from God’s Word. That is a great thing any people should do.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:24, 25 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.” The Jews are doing that. They are making a statement. “We will build our lives on God’s Word.”
As individuals, we are to build our lives on Bible. Jesus says it’s the wise thing to do. If we build our lives upon His Words, then when life’s difficulties come we will remain intact.
It’s like navigating at sea using the stars. Clouds will obstruct our view. We have to seek them out. If we do we will end up at our destination. If not, we will be lost, or worse we will be ship wrecked.
We are to be in God’s Word often. Daily, when possible. It’s like a mug with a tea bag in it. It’s steeped with the flavor of the tea. Our lives are steeped in God’s Word, so we are in tune with Him, His ways and His will.
When we reject His Word, we have lost our way and don’t know it. Romans 1:21 says, “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.” The light has been rejected and their hearts are darkened. It’s as if they are following a defective compass. They are confident they are right, but they’re not. A friend comes to mind. A smart man, who is usually fun to listen to. But he’s lost. Our last time together was at a friend’s funeral. He was sharing his passion. Unfortunately, it’s the devil’s work and he doesn’t know it.
As believers we fill our lives with God’s Word and we live Proverbs 4:18 becomes our reality, “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.” What a blessing. One day we will step from this world into eternity. Up until then He blesses our lives and they becomes brighter and brighter. Thank You, Lord.
