Hebrews 11:11
By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.
I love the fact that Sarah is in the hall of faith. Again proving that every one in here isn’t perfect. Back in genesis there isn’t much evidence of her faith. In fact, just the opposite. When God made the promise that she would have a son, her initial reaction was to laugh. She thought to herself, “after I am old, shall I have pleasure, my lord (Abe) being old, also.” He had to bring it up, “why did you laugh?” She denied it and He pressed the issue again, “you did laugh.”
Wow, being called out by God. It’s embarrassing to be corrected, especially publicly.
That’s why this is so hopeful. At some point, she trusted God. Even though both her and Abraham were at the wrong time of life for it to be possible, she trusted that He could do it. We know ourselves; our shortcoming are evident. Yet God believes in us. We aren’t branded a failure, because of our mistakes. Our doubts may continue to haunt us. That’s not God. His mission is to build us up. Sarah could have been labeled a doubter. Abraham could have brought it up in arguments, i.e., “you are so disingenuous, that God saw it.” No, the label that God assigns to her is ‘one of great faith’.
Thank You for this, Lord. Thanks for building us up. Thanks for not letting old labels stick. You will rewrite a new label over the bad one. Something that matches the antithesis of the old one. Thank You, Lord.
