Fear Not

2 Kings 6;15,16
“Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “This is hopeless, my master! What are we to do?” And he said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.”
Elisha’s attitude is the right one for the servant of God. Psalm 3:6 says, “I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” In Christ, we trust God. We trust the outcome to Him. Even if we are to pass, He never loses control.
We aren’t to fear, but to trust. I think of a carpenters level. The bubble is to stay in the center. It represents our state of calm. The bubble going to extreme is to fear. God wants us to be calm and trusting at all times.
What do we do when afraid? Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” It’s our understanding that gets us in trouble. God’s not worried. Pray and stop worrying.
We will still become afraid. Give it to Him. Sometimes fear dissipates, sometimes not. We still trust Him. We go about our business knowing we’ve given it to Him. Even though the fearful feelings remain, we trust Him.
Sometimes we have to act even though we’re fearful and unsure what to do. We pray and give it to Him. When we settle in on an action, we pray, “Lord, I’m gonna do this. If it’s a bad idea, let me know and give me wisdom.” Sometimes He intervenes, other times not. Sometimes it’s an impression or a nudge that we go with.
Lord, what a comfort it is to have You. Not so much that You’re on our side, but we’re on Yours. Our situation is like Joshua 5:13,14, ‘Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”He said, “No; rather I have come now as captain of the army of the LORD.” And Joshua fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?”’
Lord, Thank You that You are in our lives. Thank You for Your guidance. Thank You that we don’t have to fear. You comfort us, You give us wisdom and You get us through. Simply amazing.
