Exodus 8:20
“Now the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, as he comes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.”
As far as I can tell Pharaoh is coming out of the bath or some water recreation. Another reason might be a time of worshipping the Nile. Whatever the case, he’s relaxed and filled. He’s coming out of the water in a great mindset to continue with his day. Here come Moses and Aaron to discuss some God business. I don’t think Pharaoh would have chosen this time. He had just had two major disasters. The people were traumatized. All was back to normal. The river was a source of life again. The nightmare of the frogs was behind them. He comes out of his bath, grateful for normalcy. Then come those inconvenient religious guys.
God’s voice comes to us in many ways: thoughts in the mind, feelings in the heart, our conscience, advice of others, nature (the creation), and so on. These are all subjective. The reliable Word of God is the bible. That’s why He wants us to read it often. It’s like spending more time in conversation with Him. Some times His messages are comfort or like a life saver; they rescue. At other times they commands; they feel like an interruption. We might wrestle in replying for days or weeks. We mature when we comply. We mature even more when we comply quickly. We stay infants (or possibly not Christians at all) when we ignore His voice.
God loves us more than we love ourselves. He wants the best for us. So, when He asks us to do something or to put something aside, it’s for our best. Obediance becomes easier when we trust Him.
Lord, help us to be eager to hear You. Help us to quickly obey.
