1 Peter 2:3
“if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.”
We have all experienced God’s goodness. It may have been in the form of protection from an accident. He may have cheered us up. There are a thousand different ways. Then there is the goodness that He has given/gives through creation. The beautiful sunset, the love of a dog, the great food we eat, the marvel of the human body, the conveniences of human ingenuity (He made us and are created in His image), the healing property of our bodies and so on.
Many of these blessings are usually taken for granted. We don’t always attribute them to God. There doesn’t feel like a connection. Today’s topic is different. Tasting of “the kindness of The Lord.” This is experiencial. When this happens, we know it’s from Him.
What it means to taste of His kindness. It reminds me of the love of a parent or friend. We may have been down and this person came beside us and supported us; built us back up; taken us out of a place of hurt. A great bonding is the result. Experiences like this mark us. Tremendous healing happens as well as big connection to that person. A child may run off to play with friends, but monumental trust has been established. There may not be thanks given, but a life is being built.
When we taste of the kindness of others, there is no annonymity. We are grateful, indebted and love them. It’s not like the opening paragraph that doesn’t feel personal. We know it. The same is so with The Lord. Just like the parent who nurture’s the child, so He wants to heal and support us. If we have tasted His kindness, we know it. Our attention is so scattered. We may run off and play, like the child. Yet, we know He met us at our points of desperation. Trust is built. The “why” questions don’t haunt us as much. We begin to realize He knows what He’s doing. We can run off and play because we know He’s got us. A peace and a rest fills us.
To get this kindness, we need to do the first thing: ask forgiveness and yeild to His leadership. We then become His sons and daughters. The jouney begins. A lifetime of tasting His kindness will be the result. Stay in the Bible to get His speech and direction. Go to church to get christian pals to assist in the journey. You will be greatly nourished by tasting His kindness.
Lord, thank You for Your kindness.
