I Thessalonians 1:10
“and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.”
I’ve been excited about Thessalonians, as Paul writes much about Christ’s second coming. In this passage Paul says “to wait for the Son from Heaven”.
Nature itself waits eagerly for His return. Romans 8:19 says, “The creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God.” Verse 22 of Romans says that creation groans with the pain of its fallen state. It senses that things aren’t as they should be. That’s partially why some animals are going extinct. The results of sin.
If we realize it or not, we also are groaning and yearning for His coming. If we struggle with frustrations over our bad behavior, then we are unknowingly hope for His coming. Some have addictions or inclinations towards them. Some have toxic relationships. We all have our selfishness that tends to sour our situations. This isn’t how it’s to be. We often wish we would have done better. This wish is a desire for the perfect. That’s Jesus and His kingdom.
Instead of this remaining as a wish, we should craft these thoughts as God describes, a desire for His coming. The Lord’s Prayer contains it, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done…”. We need to put this back into our thoughts and vocabulary.
The Lord wants us to be dependent on Him. He helps us all day, every day. The kingdom is the ultimate rescue. We’ll be with Him forever.
Lord, thanks for Your rescuing nature. Thanks for Your kingdom. Help us to point our craving for more towards it.
