Angels on Assignment

I Corinthians 4:9

“For I think, God has exhibited us, the apostles, last of all as men condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to mankind.”

This is an interesting passage. The words that caught my attention are “both to angels and to mankind”. It reminds me of I Peter 1:12, “It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.” This passage is about the writers of the Old Testament. This shows the curiosity of the angels.

God’s creation and it’s drama are playing out in which we have a part. The angels do as well. They are also spectators. They know God and His power. They praise Him constantly. They know His love. It astounds them. They are constantly in awe of Him.

Us humans also see the drama and are part of it. Those of us who have become His chlldren learn to trust and praise Him also. As young believers we get stressed and complain. Then we read the bible and see that God will take care of us. We are to trust Him for that. We demonstrate that by giving Him thanks. He gives us faith to do so.

Faith is an important part of the life God wants us to live. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God. For anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” That’s huge. We can’t please God without faith. He’s our Father, we want to please Him.

Faith is more than attempting to trust Him. That’s part of it. It’s something He imparts. Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” He imparts it to us. I’m not sure if faith is possible without His Word. It grows in us as we hear His Words, the bible. The parable of the sower explains how God’s Word takes life in us as we hear it. Faith is from Him.

The angels cheer us on. He sends them to us for protection. Psalm 91:11,12 says,”For He will give His angels orders concerning you, To protect you in all your ways. On their hands they will lift you up, So that you do not strike your foot against a stone.”

Thank You, Lord, for the angels. They are very interested in us and Your plan. Thank You that You send them our way to protect us.
