Matthew 21:23
‘When He entered the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”’
The priests saw Jesus as the enemy. The day before He came to the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers. He called them thieves. This put a bullseye on Jesus.
The priests were wrong. Jesus was their Messiah. Yet, they were hostile to Him, sought to trick Him and eventually had Him put to death. It doesn’t get worse than that.
Are there areas in our lives in which we are wrong. I’m sure. Hopefully they aren’t big areas like this one. We all have blind spots; areas that we don’t see well.
This is a reason why it’s not good to be stubborn or strident. They were wrong and we will be wrong in areas. A year ago I made a strong stand in which I thought God would act according to my thoughts. I was wrong and lost out. I was correct about my thinking, but not how I anticipated God would act.
He still loves me and is working in my life, but those relationships have soured. He may still work, but I don’t see how.
Keep an open heart and mind. Let God’s Word dwell richly in us. Bring situations to Him and ask for wisdom and guidance. Proverbs 3:5 says to “not lean on our own understanding”. That’s easy to rely on our own perspective. It’s natural. He says to bring things to Him. To have faith and patience. Not to move to quickly, but to wait on Him.
Every life has plenty of drama that didn’t have to happen. Historacle figures have made huge errors which caused much suffering. All because of our selfishness, lack of reliance on God and moving too quickly.
Fortunately, God can heal situations and turn things around. There will be scars, but He can heal and do His work. Thank You, Lord that You make beautiful things. Even from the ashes You can bring life.
Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness and great power. Help us not to make a mess of things. Help us to stay in Your Word and hear You and pause and wait.
