Matthew 18:19,20
“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
Walking with Christ is so amazing. He has His will for us and He guides us accordingly. We don’t have to worry if we are going to miss it. If we are in His Word and submitted to Him, we are good. He will guide us.
Today’s verses speak about Jesus being with us in a special way when two of us are in agreement in His name. As we gather to pray in His name He hears in a special way. We can be confident in that. We’ve gathered, we’ve agreed and we have prayed. We can trust that He is at work.
This is so comforting. We can walk away knowing He is at work somehow. It reminds me of 2 Timothy 1:12, “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” We’ve prayed about it and we trust that He’s at work. We’ve committed it to Him. We can believe Him.
The walk of faith is great. We can trust Him. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.” Faith is real. It isn’t only positive thinking. It’s something we have, something God gives us. We feed it by being in His Word. Romans 10:17 says, “Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” The parable of the sower illustrates it. As we hear the Word it’s planted in our hearts. If our hearts are healthy soil then that seed grows to be a plant. That’s the life of God in our hearts. The fruit that it bears is the fruit of the Spirit. Much like a physical plant can be seen, so we feel the life of God in us. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.” We sense Him in us, so we sense the work He does within us.
As we gather with a brother in Christ, there are two that have their own walks with God meeting. We both sense the Spirit in us. We now meet and speak about needs to pray about. Jesus promises that He is there in their midst. We meet, we pray and we trust. We may not feel Him, but we trust Him and He is at work. We part knowing He is at work.
That is the life of faith. As believer we feel and know He is working. Unbelievers are oblivious to it. God chose to work through the foolishness of the cross. I Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Thank You, Lord, for Your ways. Help us to walk in them.
