To Find Life We Must Lose Ours

Matthew 10:39
“The one who has found his life will lose it, and the one who has lost his life on My account will find it.”
Jesus spoke in parables and puzzled language. Why? Because He is a great treasure which is only found by those who seek Him. Won’t those who seek Him miss Him on account of the puzzles? No, Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” If anyone wants God, he will be found by Him.
God is drawing us. Jesus says in John 12:32, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw everyone to Myself.” He can be resisted. Each denial reduces the draw. What also happens is that with each ignoring, people become calloused and deaf. They no longer hear Him.
We aren’t to share with those that disrespect Him. To do so is to cast pearls before swine. I used to do that. I recall talking to a guy that wasn’t interested. I kept lowering the bar. That was wrong. We can toss out morsels, if they are taken we can give more. if not, pray or move on. Matthew 10:14 says, “And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.” Don’t waste time on the uninterested.
Let’s delve a little deeper into today’s passage. If we lose our lives how can we find it. Matthew 16:24 says, ‘Then Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.”‘ And Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever”. Coming to God allows us to find life, but to go to Him we must deny ourselves. So to find life, we must lose ours to get it. Conversely, if we seek our own way that is not God’s. We will be lost.
It’s not difficult. A child can do it. Matthew 18:3 says, ‘“Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”‘ It’s not for the haughty or arrogant, but the humble. The prideful can’t enter unless they bow the knee.
Lord, thank You for Your kingdom. It’s the good way. Help us to lose our lives to find it.
