A Worker is Worthy of Support

Matthew 10:9,10
“Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, or a bag for your journey, or even two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is deserving of his support.”
This is a good principle. When we are serving others it’s approriate to receive a return. I’m not sure if I would ask for it. It seems to be a given that those receiving would offer it. Don’t feel guilty to receive. I drove down to San Diego to go on a bike ride with a friend. We had lunch and he paid for mine. I started to object, but he said that I did the driving. I received it.
There have been charlatans who have robbed those in the church. We fear that. I understand. Receiving a return for our labor is not that.
This requires some faith. Matthew 6:26 says, “Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” God will take care of us. Especially when we are serving.
Serving others should be a part of our lives. It’s part of loving them. Some times we do what we can. God has gifted us in particular ways. We are to use those gifts to serve others. God has blessed me with listening. That is the main way I serve. To hear others tell their story and let them feel heard.
Some serve as they bump into needs as they go. Others go out for the purpose of serving. I served as a counselor at church for a number of years. That was a blessing. I hope to do it again in time.
Thank You, Lord, for the service opportunities. Thank You for the provision You give.
