The Magi

Matthew 2:1,2
‘Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”’
I love this story. We’re not sure where they learned of the star. Most think it’s from Daniel’s influence in Babylon. Somewhere there was a prophecy about the star heralding the messiah. It would be nice to know more about that. It’s not necessary or God would have shared it with us.
This is a pivotal point in history. The messiah has come into the world to save us. The creation was a big time. The fall and the promise for a deliverer were big as well. The devil will seek to kill him through Herod and other occasions. The entire salvation of us all rests upon Jesus’ dying and rising from the dead.
There were curious onlookers. I Peter 1:10-12 says, “As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.” That is so cool. The prophets and the angels were curious to know more. Much like I wonder about the the magi. It’s fascinating.
They looked forward to the Messiah, while we look back at Him. The devil seeks to minimize and alter what He’s done. All of history centers around Christ. We refer to AD and BC. Academics seeking to minimize Christ have sought to change it to Common Era and Before Common Era.
This will not work. God is in charge and He won’t allow it. His will will be done. Christ will come again. Thank You, Lord.
