Philippians 4:3
“Indeed, true companion, I ask you also, help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement as well as the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.”
Paul addresses one in the church at Philippi to help. He calls him “true companion”. What a cool nick name. I would say there’s some history behind it. Something about him Paul used to create the name.
We like these type of names. I can look back and recall the positive nick names and those who came up with them. Coach T called me O’B. That was probably my favorite. I appreciated him for it. About 20 years ago I got reacquainted with him. He still liked me. It was always good to see him. True companion probably smiled when he read this.
Paul calls on him to help these ladies repair their relationship. This says much about him. He may be the pastor or at least a leader who Paul looks to. This is a blessing to him. For the rest of time all who read the bible get to read about him.
Are we someone who would be called upon to help? Are we faithful, are we available, are we mature? We are all to grow to help in the manner God has gifted us. Ephesians 4:13 says, “till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”.
We all have different gifts and different levels of influence. However we are to busy ourselves with that which God puts in front of us. We aren’t to worry that we aren’t as much of a big shot as the next one. God gives us the honor and recognition He wills.
We are to be content with that which God gives. “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God”, (Psalm 146:5). We are blessed to be His children. He calls us, loves us, heals us, blesses us and causes us to be a blessing. Thank You, Lord. You’ve made us all better. I Corinthians 6:11 says that some of us were bad people. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”, (I Peter 2:9).
Thank You, Lord, that You see us as true companions. You believe in us, You have a nick name for us. Help us to be true to the gifts You give so we can be a blessing to others.
