2 Chronicles 9:27
“And the king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the lowland”.
Solomon’s wisdom blessed the people. The economy was so strong that silver was as common as stones in Jerusalem. We know from the story that Solomon’s wisdom was a blessing from God. He wasn’t born with it. God asked him, “What can I give you?” and his response was “Wisdom to rule this great people of Yours”.
We aren’t sure of Solomon’s ability before this visitation. He may have been average, he may have been slow. He felt the task was too great for him. God equipped Him and the result is blessing for the people.
God wants us to be a blessing to those around us. We may feel inadequate, but just as He gave to Solomon, so He will equip us. Hebrews 13:21 says, He will “equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
God does this for us to be a blessing to others. Proverbs 11:25 says, “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” It’s amazing. As we grow in Christ we begin to see Him using us in this way. We begin to get feedback as such. People appreciate what we do.
This is amazing. It’s a blessing to us. God builds confidence in us. Even though we are aware that these gifts came from Him, He wants us to feel blessed and to gain confidence to grow. Romans 12:3 says, “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.” This tells me we are to think accurately about ourselves. Not too high and not too low. This is the person we now are. A blessed child of God whom He loves and works through. He wants us to feel good about ourselves.
Some equate confidence with arrogance. I understand that. I used to. But the Romans passage says we are to think of ourselves accurately. We aren’t telling ourselves we are the ones doing the work. It’s the Spirit through us. We know that. But we are His children. He wants us to know that and be encouraged by it. That’s His will.
God uses us with some. We will encounter those who aren’t interested in what we have. That’s ok. Don’t get upset. We can’t help everyone. We would be exhausted. Just connect with those who are interested. Matthew 10:14 says, “And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.” Not in bitterness, just move on. Put them out of our minds.
Lord, thank You for using us in this way. Thank You for putting Your heart in us making us want to encourage and thank You for doing it. Your power in action through us. What a privilege. Thank You.
