God’s Generosity

I Chronicles 17:10b
“Moreover, I tell you that the LORD will build a house for you.”
The Lord told David that He didn’t want him to build a house for Him. Now He says He will build a house for David. That is just like God. His generosity is incomparable. He loves to give. He loves to bless.
This is quite different from what we are used to. Most love to acquire. That’s normal, except when we do so to another’s hurt. God wants us to be givers, also. Jesus’ summation of the commandments are to love God and love others. In our journey to build a life, we are to keep those two in mind. That usually means we pause some of our goals and desires to help others.
That’s not natural for us. Parents train sharing into their children. It’s a struggle and there are tantrums. We learn socially acceptable behavior, so we no longer act out. However, we can disguise our selfishness.
When we accept Christ, He gives us a new heart. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh”, (Ezekiel 36:26). With that come godly desires to love and be generous.
Our old nature still wants to self indulge. The Lord helps us tamp it down. Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.” It’s ok to have goals and plans, but they are to be subservient to loving God and others.
God’s generosity kicks in at a greater level when we give. Malachi 3:10 says, ‘”Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.”‘ This is what happened to David. He offers to build a house for God and God turns around and builds a house for him..
God’s generosity is what makes christianity so amazing. One of the blessings is a full heart. David called it, “My cup overflows”. It’s more than happiness, but the fulness we feel in His presence. Psalms 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Just like certain people bring us pleasure, God far more. There is peace and a fulness we have in Him.
He has turned us from selfish creatures to loving ones. Thank You, Lord. Your generosity is amazing.
