The Blessed Life of Faith

2 Kings 7:2
‘The royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning responded to the man of God and said, “Even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this thing happen?”’
This is the worldly mind speaking. It did happen just as the prophet predicted. Faith was not factored in to his thinking. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”
Many people have thoughts on what God desires. Growing up I would have shared plenty of ideas about service. None of it would have interested me. This verse tells me I was off. Believing Him is what He wants.
This government worker had no faith. It would have been fine if he expressed a lack of understanding. But to show disbelief wasn’t helpful. We can show wonder and curiosity about how it might be done.
Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Fear is an interesting choice of words. It’s basically saying that we believe what He says and we respond accordingly. We would be afraid not to.
The second aspect of the Hebrews passage was unknown to me, but wonderful. There might be some inconvenience in responding, but if we obey we will be blessed. I believe this now. Romans 8:31 says, “What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” If we are in Him, He is for us.
What a blessing the faith life is. There is a constant expectation of His blessing. How will He bless today? It’s expressing doubt if we don’t think that way. The hebrews passage says we must believe that He is a rewarder of those that seek Him. That’s what He wants of us.
It’s like being a child of a wealthy, loving and generous parent. They want the best for us. They set learning experiences before us and they put blessings before us constantly. We would know we were loved and revel in it. We would be quite privileged. We are that if we are in Christ. Blessings upon blessings upon blessings.
In time we know we are His and He is mine (Song of Solomon 2:16). The many hang ups that we have heal up. He can fixed a damaged childhood, He can repair the result of abusive siblings or school mates. We could have been imprisoned wrongly, but He can still put a song in our mouths.
Lord, thank You for the life of faith and mainly thank You for You and Your ways. All goodness.
