2 Samuel 15:37
“So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.”
Initially Hushai went with David. However David asked him to go back to the city and become a spy for him. I am having difficulty with this. I have trouble asking others to do things I wouldn't want to do. I wouldn't want to be a spy. I can feel the anxiety build as I think of it.
I don't think God would ask this of me. My make up isn't one that could handle this. If He did, He would equip me to do so. Anxiety builds as we go places in our minds that are frightening. We aren't to do that. Jesus said to let tomorrow take care of itself, today has enough trouble (Matthew 6:34). We deal with what is in front of us. We pray for His help and He gives it.
We shouldn't worry which jobs He has for us. He will make us capable. Moses shared his worries and God came though. I can't remember a time when Moses wasn't equipped to do what needed to be done.
Peter said, "Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you", (I Peter 5:7). That is so amazing. He wants us to give them to Him and not to worry. Matthew 10:19 says, "But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say." These are the things that make me nervous, not knowing what to say. Jesus said He will give us the words. He doesn't want us to worry.
Another difficulty of this passage is asking others to do something challenging. I feel I am imposing on them. I am probably normal in this. However, it's another worry that I need to cast on Him. If I need someone's help He will work in their hearts to help.
Our society is becoming more isolated. We should try to intertwine our lives with others. It can get sticky. Trust Him and jump in. David said in Ps 133:1, "A song of ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony." We have brothers in Christ. We are to lean on them at times.
Thank You, Lord, that You help us with difficult things. Thank You that You carry our concerns and trade peace for them.
