He Fills All Things

Ephesians 4:10
“He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.”

The phrase "fill all things" gets one's attention. When I went to the commentaries there was this comment, "It's too sublime to be limited". Ok, let's explore that. Colossians 1:17 says, "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." What does He hold together? My physics teacher commented that scientists didn't know how the atom held together, because the polarities were such that they should repel. So they made up the term nuclear glue. They don't know what it is, but they know something is holding it together, so that's what they call it. Colossians says Jesus holds all things together. His word speaks and it's done. He's that powerful.
The ironic thing is that the brilliant and powerful see Jesus as weak and meant for children. They are busy with adult things. They don't understand His power and vastness.
When videos show hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, the show of great animals that amaze us. They are God's creation. When engineers create automobiles that are fast and handle well, we are impressed. These are using their knowledge of physics laws to do this. These laws are God-made.
When we see beauty in nature, in people, in actions, these are God's creation. When we are inspired, calmed and motivated by music, this is God's creation. When we marvel at people's ability to create instruments of music and we see people create musical scales and notes, God gave them those abilities.
Part of what makes life so grand is our emotions. Happiness, joy, excitement, motivation, calm, contentment, love, peace, kindness and so on. God has all of these and built them in us. This is part of what it means to be made in His image. In a sense we are miniatures of Him. I've listed the positive emotions, the negative ones are also there: sadness, anger, fear, hate, and so on. God also has these. They don't go to the extreme with Him. For example, depression is extreme sadness. He isn't ever depressed. These emotions are part of life and are also good as long as they aren't extreme. They make the positive emotions more bright.
God influences our thoughts. Acts 17:28a says, ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ He is in us and all around us. He doesn't control us, unless we ask Him to do so. Even then it's a partnership.
Proverbs 21:1 says, "The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He pleases." As is with the king, so it is with the commoner. God will put thoughts in our minds on occasion. He wants us to do good and more importantly to come to Him. He seeks to draw us to Him. It's our choice to do so. We can put out this thought as easily as it comes. The more we ignore these God-thoughts, the less impact they have. We become calloused or "dull of hearing" as Jesus says.
If we accept His thoughts and guidance, we end up accepting His offer of salvation and become His child. We read the bible, His Word, and are now reading His thoughts and wishes. We begin to walk with Him. Our days become more full and purposeful as we are walking in communion and fellowship with Him. He fills us with peace and joy. He uses us to help others and to help them come to Him. It's a wonderful life.
Lord, thank You that You fill all things. Your main purpose is to fill us. Thank You for doing so.
