2 Samuel 7:23
“And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to redeem as a people for Himself and to make a name for Himself? You performed great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before Your people, whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt.”
God blesses His people. He primarily does it because He loves us. He says of us in Jeremiah 31:3, 'The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you."' This is so amazing and hopeful. We are loved by our parents. This pales in comparison to His love.
God knows us well and has complimentary thoughts about us. David describes this in Psalm 139:17,18, "How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You." Each of us could think up 12 or so nice things about ourselves. Others may have five. Our parents may have about 15. God's good thoughts about us are innumerable. If we were to hear him lovingly list each one included with an example He remembers from our lives we would sobbingly glow with warmth. It would build us up.
God wants our best. He knows what's best for us as He created us. Just like a psychologist could have amazing insights, God far more. This love acts just like a parent. Hebrews 12:6 says, "For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives." If we submit our lives to Him and have accepted His forgiveness, then He parents us by bringing circumstances that work patience, wisdom and other traits in us.
Some of these situations can be rough. Proverbs 3:11 says, "My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD, and do not loathe His rebuke." This is where trust and faith come in. We are to trust that He is leading us and working good in us.
We demonstrate our trust by being grateful for His guidance. Paul says in Romans 5:3-5, "Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us." We are to rejoice in our sufferings. This doesn't mean we enjoy the difficulties, but that we know He is using them to make us better.
God also blesses us to make a name for Himself so He can attract others to Himself. He loves the lost equally to us and wants to forgive, adopt and bless them. He wants us to be attractive examples that draw other to Him. We don't manufacture this on our own, but through the Spirit He works it out. David says in Psalm 23, "He prepareth a table for me in the presence of mine enemies." He holds an honor banquet for us.
God thank You for Your great blessings. You've taken commoners, forgiven us and set us on a path of blessing. We are now Your representatives to the world. Help us to bring many to You.
