Galatians 6:10
“So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
This is another blessing of Christianity, "doing good to all people". Jesus stretched the boundaries by telling us to go the second mile or turn the other cheek. Peter was looking for a boundary when he asked Jesus how many times he should forgive his brother. When he suggested, "seven", Jesus answered "seventy times seven". Yes, it's a limit, but an unreachable one.
I want to quickly address the doormat complaint. We can still set bourndries, while doing all this. We aren't to let ourselves get abused. In fact, abusers need boundrys. They will rarely say so, but they need them.
My mom would say, "If someone is bold in their requests, be strong with our boundary." I can recall doing this and not understanding that they got mad. I thought it didn't work. I didn't realized that it was right. I didn't know about investing. That person would come around and trespass a boundary with me. Even though the got mad, they wouldn't ask the next time.
Just as He is the Lord wants us to be a blessing to others. It's what He does and wants us to do. Instead of getting all that we can get, we are to bless others. We will get blessed in return, it might take some time or it will come in an unrecodnisable way.
We can get snubbed. We blessed and they abused. We look to the Lord. "Don't grow weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we don't lose heart", (Galatians 6:9).
Today's verse says, "especially those who are in the household of faith". These are like family. They are faith family and God's children in whom He wants to care for. Sometimes we are the instruments. Sometimes we are the focus of blessing.
At times it's not convenient to be the instrument of blessing. It's those times we have to be patient. At times it fits right in, other times our plans need to be rearranged. That's God's classroom. We've got lessons to learn. "Then Jesus said to all of them, 'If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and come after me'", (Luke 9:23). Taking up the cross means we have to crucify our plans at times. He will care for us.
Lord, thank You for Your care. Thank You that You bless us and use us to bless others.
