Galatians 5:23b
Against such things there is no law.
The Lord desires to work a great work in us such that we don't require rules or laws. He seeks to trust us or stated otherwise to believe in us.
We are either filled with the fruit of the Spirit or the works of the flesh. Which one isn't based if we're good or bad, but whose we are. If in Christ we've been forgiven, cleansed, adopted, filled and blessed. If not in Christ, we are still in our sins, full of self and so on.
Why don't we need laws? It's because He's given us new hearts and His laws are written on them (Jeremiah 31:33). Which laws are there? Love God and love others. Loving God means we want to listen to and follow Him. Proverbs calls this fearing Him.
He's our father; He's picked us up, cleaned us off, makes us feel wanted and causes us to do the same to others. No laws are required. We don't want sin as it would hurt God, others and ourselves. We seek to follow Him and be a blessing.
He causes us to love others. We don't need laws telling us not to harm others. Our new hearts want to love others as ourselves. This doesn't mean we won't have selfishness in us. The Lord works that out of us.
How does God do that? Matthew 16:24 gives us some insight. 'Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" The believer isn't self focused. Sure selfish thoughts will arise, but we get convicted of sin and the Lord shows us how to be in this crowded world.
God wants us to love others and lead them to the kingdom. This is done one day at a time with those who He brings in our paths. Some of those days won't include others. We go about the task at hand. It may be work, recreation, church and so on. If it involves others it may be warm, fun, challenging, stressful,... whatever it is we ask the Lord for help and ask that we are a blessing.
We aren't to worry about the outcome or how we're received. I Corinthians 3:7 says, "So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase." He brought about the situation, He will bring it through to it's conclusion.
Our relationship with people is as long or short as He desires. It may be a single interaction, it may be for a season, or possibly for years. As long as we are walking with Him, He will determine that.
Lord, thank You for Your guidance and provision. Thank You for working in us such that we don't need laws. Thank You for that privilege.
