Galatians 4:6 ‘Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”’
The Holy Spirit makes His home in us when we come to Christ. What a mystery. None of us understand this at the time. This fact can be pondered producing wonder every time. The great God, the all wise creator, the sustainer of all life wants to be joined with us.
He created this wonderful world for us to enjoy. The detail and complexity of life is much too great to comprehend. He wanted us to love and live life enjoying this great creation.
His brilliance of design goes deep on numerous levels. He created the defense system in us that fights off infection and produces healing. Our organs process food and turn it into fuel. It then takes the waste and disposes of it healthily. That is the God we serve.
The Lord made us to be like Him. We plan our days and execute that plan. We clean up after ourselves; we create things to make our lives more efficient. We build friendships and maintain healthy ones. We marry, have children, raise them to be happy, healthy individuals to repeat the process.
All this to say how amazing the Lord is and how incredible it is that He makes His home in our hearts. This isn't figurative, but He actually resides in all of His children.
But one may protest, "I am broken. How can this be?" Psalm 103:14 says, "For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Remember who Jesus visited and healed; the possessed, the sick, the blind and sinners. He had harsh words for the elites. Mark 2:17 says, 'And hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."'
Initially, we come to Him timidly. We learn of and experience His love. We trust Him in time. The fear and guilt subsides. We become like a well loved child who can barge into all aspects of the parents lives knowing he or she will encounter grace and mercy.
This leads us into the last part of this verse, the entry of the Spirit into our hearts fosters a fatherly relationship. We cry out, "Abba, Father". Not only is the all powerful creator in us, His relationship is one of a father. Not only is He is father, He is the most loving and kind Father. Hebrews 4:16 tells us how we should view Him, "Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
Lord, thank You for being our Father. Rid us of our fear and suspicion. Help us to confidently go to You, knowing we will receive help and acceptance.
