Bring It To God

I Samuel 9:6
‘He said to him, “Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out.”’

An earlier entry addressed how Saul was raising by caring parents. Today’s passage indicates that he was raised in a household of faith. He has the practice of calling on God.
Saul and his helper were sent on a mission to find the missing donkeys. They had done a thorough search with no success. He gets the idea to call on God. That’s where today’s verse comes in. He speaks of the man of God who is known to be helpful.
Like many of us, he seeks God’s help when stuck. This is appropriate. The Bible speaks much about bringing our needs to Him. Matthew 7:11 says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”
The more mature faith is highly dependent on God. Our culture has trouble with this. Some say, “God helps those who help themselves.” While there is a fraction of truth there, the Lord wants us in constant communication with Him. Paul says to “Pray without ceasing”, (I Thessalonians 5:17). We should be saying, “Lord, guide me here”, “Lord, give me wisdom in this”, “Lord, grant me Your favor” and so on. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” We are to pray about all things.
Bruce Almighty has a scene that shows millions of prayers coming at an overwhelming rate. Bruce can’t handle this and just types, “Yes”. God easily can attune to all of us at the same time. Some think they don’t want to be needy and bother the Lord. This is contrary to scripture. God wants us to come to Him all throughout the day. Saul called on God. We’re not sure if this is the first time he brought up the subject or if he quietly was brought this up at the trips outset. Whichever the case, he knew that God could help.
Lord, thank You for being there for us. Help us to bring all things to You.
