II Thessalonians 3:4
“We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.”
We can have fears that we won’t make it until the end. However, today’s passage provides some comfort; God “will continue” the work in us. II Timothy 1:12 says something similar, “For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.” Jesus says in John 10:28, “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
God keeps His children. We will still have trials and tumultuous times, in which it feels like we’re far from Him. This is part of life. Paul had experiences that he implored of the Lord three times for deliverance. It was not to be. He needed those times.
We are to trust God that He will keep us. Fears arise, “Not me. I don’t deserve His help.” This does not come from faith. He wants us to know that He is merciful and forgiving. Even though and in spite of our faults, He loves us.
He wants us to be confident in our faith. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” It’s not presumptuous to do this. I think of Tad Lincoln and how he would bust into his father’s presidential meetings. His father adored him. God loves us more so. He looks forward to us going to Him.
Lord, thank You for keeping us. Help us to trust in Your love and Your keeping power.
