His Word

II Thessalonians 3:1
“Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you;”

Paul’s prayer was for the Lord’s word to spread rapidly and be glorified. He understood the power of His word. Today’s entry will address of the wonders of that word.
It’s living and active. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” God’s word is organic. As soon as it touches the human heart, it grows.
Jesus illustrated this wonderfully in the parable of the sower. Our job is to cultivate the soil of our hearts to keep it alive. Three of the four soils were toxic. They are worries, lack of understanding and the heat of adversity. The forth soil was good. This one understood the message, applied it and fruitfulness was the result.
The fact that the God’s word is alive is amazing. I didn’t comprehend this truth until I was 25 years old. Knowing this causes us to richly invest in this mine. The concept of the movie, “The Raiders of the Lost Ark” was that the ark was an earpiece and microphone to God. The country that possessed it would be all powerful. Well, God’s word is such a thing. As we read it and hear it taught we get it into our lives. This starts the process Jesus spoke of in parable.
Paul completely understood the power of His word. He knew that if people heard the bible, it would have miraculous effects. Particularly if it was heard regularly and witnessed it lived out. Therefore, he prayed that His word would spread rapidly.
Lord, thank You for Your word. Help us to invest in it.
