By the Word of Our Testimony

Revelation 12:11
“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.”

This verse is intriguing. The verse prior to this speaks of how the devil constantly accuses us before God. If we’ve been forgiven, then those accusations have already been addressed. The blood of the Lamb has erased any guilt.
We may have legally damaged someone’s property have liable for the repair. We may not have had the resources to pay. That’s when our father stepped and payed the bill. We have fulfilled that which the court required of us. The offended party may still be angry about the incident. He may bring it up whenever we see him. He may tell others about the damage. However, we are clean in the sight of the law. So it is with our sin. The devil brings up all our faults before the Father. However, He’s bored of it and doesn’t listen. Quite the contrary. He brags on us just like He did with Job.
The second part of the verse speaks of “the word of their testimony”. What is our testimony? It’s telling a story of particular happenings. This verse is referring to how we reveal God’s work in our lives. He has done much in and through us. Starting off with how He saved us and then His work in our every daily lives.
How does sharing our testimony help us overcome? Romans 10:9 says, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”. There is something about speaking of God’s work. This verse refers to how speaking has something to do with making conversion real. We perform the risky task of telling our friends and family that we are going with God. We are stepping across the line and joining His team. Which means we are leaving the world, the flesh and the devil. God honors this testimony.
It doesn’t stop with our salvation story. We can testify of God’s dealings for the rest of our lives. He never stops His great love in working in us. He frees us from addictions. This is a great story to any that’s stuck. He heals those sad places. This is good news to the depressed. He helps our children. Most parents are worried about their kids. Sharing this work increases our faith and turbocharges God’s work in us.
Most get nervous when it comes to speaking of God. Our culture says we shouldn’t speak of God or politics. That’s a subtle trick of the enemy to silence us. We should ask for wisdom for when to speak and courage to speak. He understands and will help.
Lord, thank You that we will overcome. Help us to be bold and speak of You. Thank You that You bless us as we do so.
