I Samuel 1:5
“but to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had closed her womb.”
God’s sovereignty has control over our lives, if we are His. It’s ok to seek to rectify our situation. However, sometimes we aren’t successful. So it was with Hannah. Her husband had two wives. The other bore him many children. While Hannah had none.
Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a gift of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Children were a sign of God’s favor. Some would see Hannah’s barren state as God’s disapproval. She certainly did.
This wasn’t correct. God loved Hannah. Yet, He did close her womb. God was doing something different with her. This is when we need to trust Him. He will make it right. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” He will work it out.
This was embarrassing for Hannah. She felt shame. The Lord knows this. He attempted to ease her pain through the extra love of her husband. The Lord knows it’s still difficult. He won’t allow things to become unbearable. I Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” We question this while suffering. It feels overwhelming. Yet, He will sustain us.
Lord, help us to stay close to You. Thank You that You won’t allow things to be too much
