Prosperity, pt III

Deuteronomy 30:9

“Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers.”

Another type of prosperity that The Lord will grant us is with our circumstances. We could be in the work world or in school. The Lord will prosper us as we walk with Him.
Walking with Him means that we are open to and yield to His guidance. The christian’s desire is “Thy will be done” (Matthew 6:10). Proverbs 3:5,6 speaks further about the life yielded to God. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
This passage speaks of our paths being made straight. Our paths are our circumstances as well as our life direction. To straighten them means they aren’t in endless loops or dead ends. This looks different for each of us. The Lord has an individual plan for each of us and it is good (Jeremiah 29:11).
The proverbs verse also speaks of trusting God and not leaning on our own understanding. This is wonderful once we in a pattern of doing so. However, there is a learning curve. We are to yield to His ways. This can lead to moderating or sacrificing some of our desires. It’s actually for our best, but in the moment it’s difficult. As we trust that He knows best, then it becomes easier. Particularly when we start seeing results. He will honor and reward us as we obey.
David speaks of the honor God gives in Psalm 23:5: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Our life becomes a banquet in our honor. Those around us respect and like us. We will have difficulties and challenges. However, on balance, He wants to bless and prosper our paths.
Lord, thanks that You want to do all these great things in our lives. Help us to trust You.
