Thy Kingdom Come

I Thessalonians 12:2
“That you would walk worthy of God, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.”
I’m going to focus on the second part of this verse, “who has called you to his kingdom and glory.” The meaning is simple. However, Jesus spoke much about His kingdom, so it’s worth more than a cursory look.
Elliott in his commentary has this to say, “The call is not simply a momentary act, but a continual beckoning upwards, until the privileges offered are actually attained.” I like this as it speaks of our relationship and daily walk with Christ. It’s to be active and reciprocal.
On the topic of a living relationship, Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The Bible is the primary and most reliable method by which God speaks to us. Through it, He communicates to our souls and spirits. It usually isn’t at the moment of reading. Much like vitamins are time released, so is the bible.
If we respond positively, then another brick is laid in the house of our lives. We become integrated with God and His ways. That is the kingdom. We are submitting to the rule of the king.
In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus said, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.” It’s not only referring to the future establishment of His rule. But our daily listening to and adherence to His ways. We are allowing His kingdom to come in our lives.
Where ever His kingdom is established is peace and joy. It drives out the darkness. Those are His ways. The more we allow for His kingdom rule, the more blessed we’ll be.
Lord, thanks for Your kingdom in our lives. Help us to yield more and more to it.
