Hearing His Voice, pt I

Deuteronomy 26:17
“You have today declared the LORD to be your God, and that you would walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments and His ordinances, and listen to His voice.”

Hearing God’s voice sounds exciting to some and scary to others. It sounds unique and rare, like finding the lost Ark. What mystery would He share? Others are frightened by it. Who knows what He would say. He may speak disapprovingly.
God’s message comes forth from His character. Most would agree that He is love (coming from a christian perspective). While that my be the response, it seems that most don’t expect that message. Yet, that is the primary word.
There will be life-change comments, as well. But love is first. The life-change comments come so that God can share His love. He wants to be close to us and involved with us. God is holy and can only dwell with those that are holy.
Jesus came to cleanse us from sin. By accepting His forgiveness, we are accepted by the Father. Our sin is the awkward elephant in the room. For us to have an open dialogue with God, it needs to be addressed.
Revelation 3:20 is the introductory word that Jesus has to everyone, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.” God wants a close relationship. He wants to commune with our souls and spirits. Everyone wants that. Some are afraid of the cost. They feel it will be such a cramp on their lives. It can take a desperate time to pressure some to consider it. It does involve Him being the boss. However, He is gentle. He introduces changes in an understanding manner.
It’s worth it. To be in communion with Him produces a wonderful life. David says in Psalm 23, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”
Lord, thanks for Your voice. Thanks for the communion You want with us.
