Deuteronomy 26:9
“and He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Our last entry was a review of Israel’s history. All of it led up to their present reality, “a land flowing with milk and honey.” This was rich land, full of resources to make life grand.
God wants to develop us to a point that our lives are like this. David says in Psalm 23:5, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
The Lord wants to give us a blessed life. He wants our cups to overflow. The joy of The Lord and his providence will be endless. We won’t be able to contain it.
What does this abundant life look like? It has several aspects. The fruit of the Spirit is there. Galatians 5:22,23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no Law.” This person doesn’t need rules or commands. Kindness flows from within.
This abundant life includes God’s peace. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” It’s incomprehensible because our circumstances may be cause for worry. Yet, we have learned to trust Him. He rewards us with His peace.
God’s life for us includes guidance. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” He will open and close doors. We learn to trust that His path is much more than we could have asked for. His ways are better.
His plans for us include providence. Jesus describes it in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” We won’t be able to contain all He has for us.
Lord, thanks for Your incredible blessings. It fills us within and without. We have our own land flowing with milk and honey.
