2 Peter 3:16
“He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.”
The bible is the most important book ever written. It claims to be the Word of God. It’s the foundation for our faith. If it’s faulty, then so is our faith.
Skeptics of the bible and christianity refer to the bible as a collection of myths. Years ago, I had a coworker use that language when talking about the bible and the stories within. Unfortunately she was a teacher of history, passing on that language to our young people.
However, we see the bible as true. We see the stories as historical. We read the words within and trust that they are from The Lord. Here are some of Paul’s comments about scripture from 2 Timothy 3:16,17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.”
The legitimacy of the bible is important. Today’s passage illustrates one of the many proofs for the bible. We have the apostle Peter calling Paul’s writings scripture.
Peter is an important person. He was the chief apostle. All agree the Jesus is the most important figure. Amongst the 12 apostles, Peter was Jesus’ choice. So, Peter’s opinion is of great importance. Peter tells us that Paul’s writings are part of scripture.
Paul wrote most of the New Testament. This is 13 (some say 12, as Hebrews is assigned to Paul, though no signature is given) books out of 27. Nearly half of the New Testament is Pauline.
There are many other supports for why the bible is the true word of God. There are many great books which go into great detail.
Lord, thank You for the bible. They are Your words to us. From them we great comfort and direction. Thank You for the evidence You’ve provided that gives us the confidence needed.
