2 Peter 3:10
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.”
The bible speaks of signs of His coming. Matthew 24:3 says, ‘As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”’ Jesus gives answers in this chapter. There are more throughout the bible.
The season when Jesus is to come back can and will be known by many. However, the time of His coming will not be known. His mercy gives us these signs. He doesn’t want us to be unaware. Millions will come to Christ as they see the signs fall into place. It will be a scary time. Jesus says in Luke 21:26, “Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
Today’s passage says that it will come as a thief. No one knows the time of His coming. We are to be ready. What does that mean? We are accept Christ and are to be walking with Him (obedience). I know the context of the Second Coming is scary, but being in relationship with God isn’t. In Matthew 18:3, Jesus said we are to come to Him as a child. It’s not complicated or unreasonable. It’s the most right thing that can ever be done.
Lord, thank You for Your coming. Thank You for the mercy that’s within this warning.
